Tour story

The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most challenging and rewarding high-altitude treks, offering a remote and adventurous experience around the world’s seventh-highest peak, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m). This trek takes you through diverse landscapes, from lush green valleys and terraced farmlands to barren, rocky terrains and glaciers. Unlike more commercialized treks, the Dhaulagiri Circuit remains off the beaten path, providing trekkers with an authentic wilderness experience. The journey typically starts from Beni and follows the Myagdi Khola river, passing through Magar villages and dense forests before ascending to the high-altitude regions.

The trek’s highlight is crossing the French Pass (5,360m) and Dhampus Pass (5,200m), offering breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Annapurna, and Nilgiri. Before reaching these high passes, trekkers spend a few days at Italian Base Camp (3,660m) and Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,750m) to acclimatize. The challenging terrain includes glacier crossings at Hidden Valley, a secluded and surreal alpine plateau. The remoteness of the region means there are no teahouses beyond certain points, requiring trekkers to rely on camping, making this trek ideal for those seeking a true wilderness adventure.

Despite its difficulty, the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is an unforgettable experience for experienced trekkers. The route’s isolation, high altitude, and technical challenges require good physical fitness, proper acclimatization, and expert guidance. The trek usually takes 16 to 20 days and is best done in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) for stable weather and clear mountain views. Those who complete the journey are rewarded with an unparalleled sense of achievement, incredible Himalayan scenery, and a deeper appreciation of Nepal’s diverse landscapes and cultures.
